But I forgot about the circumstance that it was early morning and cloudy.
Later that day I was proved wrong when I started exploring Tassie's capital: the sun was shining and it was warm!
Anyway though the city has some nice corners it is just BORING!
Dunno if my long stay in Sydney made me think that way or it is just right but I fear my home town is gonna be very very boring when I return since it is even so much smaller!
Anyway.
After my travel mates cancelled the road trip not even 24hrs before my arrival in Hobart I immediately started to find new ones and I was lucky! I found Cenan and Grischa, of course two Germans!
So Monday morning we went to Wicked to get our car. Never go to Wicked if you can avoid it, never!
But taking the car there proved to be a very funny business.
Grischa had to sign the contract with Wicked since he was renting the car and here is the dialogue that followed (in German):
-"This is a really good pen!"
-"Really?"
-"Yeah."
-"Okay then take it!"
-"Seriously?"
-"Yeah, give it to me and I'll take it!"
So Grischa gave the pencil to Cenan when the girl who was working for Wicked didn't watch and took it.
Just later when we were about to drive off the girl said to us "I believe you accidently took the pencil."
I just couldn't stop laughing!
Our camper with the crew! We were camping on such beautiful sites but took the picture there...retarded us!
After getting everything we needed for the road trip, like food and gas bottles - which felt like ages - we could finally start.
The day was great - it was hot and sunny - and we made our way down the Tasman Peninsula to Port Arthur.
I just can say I was/am amazed by Tasmania's nature!
At that peninsula we found a stunning bay, Pirate Bay and an entertaining blowhole!
Cenan(legt) & Grischa(right) my fellow travel mates!
Getting to Port Arthur we even got in for free!
Although it was nice to see it wouldn't have been worth it the usual entry price but for free it is good to see.
I could even feel the chains some time after taking them off...feels a lot heavier to walk
That night we camped in Triabunna from where our ferry to Maria Island was going to depart the following morning. Here we again saved a lot of $ because only one of us showed up at the care taker and later we got to know when talking to other campers that we usually should have paid per person. Good for us.
The next morning it was quite chilly and cloudy and I told everyone to wear shorts because we were going to hike for most of the day but of course I did not follow my own advice and I regretted it!
We just departed from Triabunna with the ferry when the clouds started to disappear and it started to get warmer.
As soon as we reached the island the sky was blue, it was hot in the sun and I was the with my stupid long trousers...silly me!
Just entering the island we were welcomed by a wild Wombat! You don't see those animals often in wildlife and they are really cool!
Marvellous beaches where ever you looked!
There's our dear friend!
Anyway we were hiking most of the day next to beautiful and high cliffs and then summited one of the island's highest peaks. This summit wasn't just following an easy walking track - we had to climb even quite a fair bit and it could be quite dangerous because it went deep down at the sites but we did it and we were rewarded with a stunning view!
Feeling sky high!
Group-selfie! Because it's not a good day if you don't have a good selfie! And it took enough tries to get even that one;)
On our way back down we then even saw a Tigersnake! How awesome is that?!
Better late than never! A snake!
Can this day get even better? Test it can! Our friend the Wombat came to wish us farewell!
But this is still not the end of the day! That night we wanted to camp in Swansea but we had nothing to make for dinner and all the supermarkets already closed so early. So we went to a Fish'n'Chips restaurant and all took chips and because we were so poor the lady of the house gave us ketchup for free.
After dinner when we paid we asked when the supermarkets were going to open the next day since we had nothing for breakfast (retarded us).
So when we just started the car to drive to a free camp site the lady ran out of the restaurant and gave us some pies so that we don't have to be hungry.
This really hit me unawares and I really can just highlight how friendly and helpful the people in Australia are! Things like that only happen here! In Germany nobody would give people food for free just so that they don't have to be hungry and especially would not run out of the shop to bring it to them before they are gone! Besides the Fish'n'Chips restaurant was really good so if you happen to come to Swansea in Tasmania go there and have a dinner, you won't regret it.
Yeah the luck left me and the next day was very cloudy and even worse the clouds were very close to the ground so when we came to Wineglass Bay, Tasmania's most beautiful bay, we couldn't even see the mountains that make it so special.
Later on in our way north to the Bay of Fires we came through Bicheno where it was already sunny and there we could laugh at the people who got totally wet at a blow hole and enjoy the stuning beaches.
When we finally arrived at the Bay of Fires it was cloudy again but at least still comfortably warm and it has one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen and can almost compete with the magnificent Whitehaven Beach of the Whitsundays.
Living the Tassie dream!
Even better there was a free camp site at the Bay of Fires so we even could camp at this beautiful spot but the luck left us even more and we were woken up by rain the nextorning and it was raining - the whole day in the whole north of Tasmania.
So we just went straight to Launceston to get food for the next day and there it stopped raining for about an hour and we wanted to see the 'famous' Cataract Gorge there but where totally disappointed because there is absolutely nothing!
So later that afternoon we went to Mole Creek where I wanted to visit a cave the next morning.
And here my luck with the weather returned to me and presented me a sunny and warm day.
The caves are really beautiful and there is a lot of nasty things living down there...have seen some gigantic spiders but also massive amount of glow worms which kind of compensate the spiders...
After that was done we went straight for Cradle Mountain as long as the weather was good. However it was very cloudy there at first and you couldn't even the see mountain it cleared quickly and we had an amazing view!
Yeah looking real cool with the lake and of course me in front of the mountains!
The next day brought us to Lake St Clair, Australia's deepest freshwater lake. But that already all I can say about it because it has nothing really special about it what you can see...just a really big lake.
Even more interesting was a waterfall we have seen on the way to the lake, Nelson Falls.
So the day after we were hoping for a last highlight in Mt. Fields National Park. There we started with a marvellous waterfall and later on summited a mountain to have a great view over a beautiful valley.
That night we camped near Hobart and our last day passed very event less with me spending the afternoon at the airport waiting for my plane to Melbourne!!!!
Anyway about Tassie there is to say that it really has a stunning nature and wildlife but you need to have good weather to really enjoy it and it would probably be enough to just do the east coast and maybe Cradle Mountain of Tasmania.
Now it's time for Melbourne and a reunion with Luke!
